Hey everyone,

I was just writing to our graphic designer trying to describe, as an image, what I feel about ARTSIDEOUT - what I want it to be. And I want to share it with you:


THE VISION FOR ARTSIDEOUT


What we're trying to do with ASO is radically open up the entire arts community to the school and the community at large.

Why?

Because
a) the community needs to see what amazing work is done by its artists and,
b) artists need a greater space to work with - they need the whole school - the whole community, hell the whole world to be their toy, their space - their interface.

They need to be able to touch as much of the world as they can.

ASO is really, our humble attempt to give artists something that is so often hard to get in the outside world: space and the freedom to use it.

In terms of space, ASO is an explosion of light and color - of space touched by creativity and transformed by brilliance. And despite all the rules us organizers have to negotiate with to make this happen, in our heart of hearts, ASO is freedom and chaos and beauty - it is not being limited by rules - it is NOT STAYING IN 'YOUR PLACE'.

Its touching grey buildings and filling them with color. It is filling old quiet hallways with music and sound. It is the ability to touch and change anything your heart desires.

It is a chance to transform and transcend.

All you have to do, is attend.
